P5
This SFX is perfect for our shoot, as the finger is sliced open with a stanley knife when the actress is cutting open boxes, therefore, the slice over the finger is appropriate for our intention.
Annotated photographs of me working on set following safe working practice
In this photo of me holding the boom pole, you can see how I wrapped the cables around the pole in order to reduce as much cable as possible which could potentially cause a trip hazard. In the BECTU safe working practice, it mentions that "Route cables safely or cover them to prevent trips or falls and protect their integrity and insulation. Keep cable runs as short as possible. Never overheat cables by running them close to heat sources or using them coiled or tied up.". As you can see, I have prevented trips or falls and I have kept the cabe run as short as possible. Furthermore, I have the cables away from a heat source that could cause potential harm, and the cables are not coiled or bunched up in one place.
"Electrical equipment must be suitable for its work in terms of strength and capability." - The sound recorder, boom microphone and headphones are perfectly capable for their purpose and there're no issues with their strength.
"At noise levels at or above 85 dB (A) averaged over eight hours, employers must provide employees with ear protection on request." - This wasn't required during our shoot because we weren't exceeding 85 dB (A) during the whole shoot, and no one required ear protection.
Close-up aesthetic details of the SFX
As you can see, the SFX has a lot of close up detail. Firstly, the wax has been glued on to look like it's part of the finger by blending and smoothing the wax to the skin. We did this by using SFX glue. Foundation is used to match the skin tone to the makeup, making it look more realistic. The blood looks very realistic, with darker colours in inside the cut and a slightly lighter red on the outside, with trickling down blood too to add more detail. Not only does this add more realism, but also adds more gore.
